Course information

The To NetZero course is part of a flexible fully funded (free) skills programme to residents of North Tyneside and Northumberland.

The course supports individuals working in organisations to develop their understanding, knowledge and skills for reducing carbon emissions.

Course subject areas

By the end of the course, participants will gain knowledge on:

Climate change and its implications

  • What climate change is and why it matters

  • What Net Zero means

  • The global response and UK response

  • Importance to small businesses

Carbon footprint

  • The meaning of a carbon footprint

  • Difference between reduction and offsetting

  • Completing a personal carbon footprint

Sustainable practices

  • Circular economy principles

  • Application in different sectors

  • Potential application in learner's situation

  • Supply chains

  • How sustainable actions can save money and reduce costs

Marketing and ethical considerations

  • Greenwashing

  • Ethical marketing

  • Develop a basic low carbon marketing plan

Course format

The course is run via a series of online workshops, via Zoom; 6 to 8pm on Wednesdays for 5 weeks.

In each session there will be a talk from a subject specialist covering:

  • Climate change and Net Zero

  • Carbon footprinting

  • Circular economy

  • Ethical marketing

  • Low carbon operations and digital

Following the sessions each participant will get access to support to help implement their To NetZero plan at work (where applicable).

Who is eligible for the course?

The To NetZero course is open to North of Tyne Combined Authority (Newcastle, North Tyneside, and Northumberland) residents who are:

  • Age 19 and older

  • Employed or running a business

There is no charge for the course and more than one person can register from the same organisation.
